De Havilland ontstaat in 2015 uit de chemie tussen Nathalie Van den Meutter één van de meest bijzondere stemmen van de nieuwe Belgische muziescène, en de songs van Rudolf Hecke (auteur, componist).
FRANK VANDER LINDEN (De Mens): ‘20% Leonard Cohen, 10% Bob Dylan, 10 % Dolly Parton (ja), 10 % Dead Can Dance en 10 % Lana Del Rey, en de resterende 40% is ook goed…De Havilland is zeker een waardevol project en verdient meer voorgrond.’
De songs van De Havilland zijn surreële, melancholische kortverhalen met oog voor detail. Eigenzinnige melodielijnen, prachtige samenzang en bijzondere klanklandschappen verwelkomen je in een volstrekt eigen wereld. Spannend en verslavend.
De singles ‘Responsable’ en ‘You (little words)’ komen terecht in de playlists van resp. Radio 1 en Radio 2. Productie is in handen van Simon Casier (Zimmerman, Balthazar). De Havilland werkt aan een eerste full-album waarvan de release voorzien is najaar 2019.
In de zomer van 2018 staat De Havilland voor het eerst op een podium. Meteen stellen enkele belangrijke festivals hun affiche ter beschikking. Zo stond De Havilland o.a. op de acoustic stages van Dranouter en Suikerrock, op Maanrock en de Spiegeltent van de Gentse Feesten. De groep trad ook op als support van Dez Mona en The Antler King.
In 2019 en 2020 start De havilland een tour met auteurs als gasten (Dirk De Wachter, Elvis Peeters, Herman Brusselmans, Delphine Lecompte, Annelies Verbeke, Johan Braeckman, Rudolf Hecke).
Samen met producer Koen Renders (Buurman) wordt een eerste EP opgenomen die september 2020 verschijnt.
